To which direction need you go to know
the unwillingness of an animal to be possessed,
butchered, devoured or targeted?
Just like every other living thing
in the scheme of things.
How else will you try to make it better
to get a lizard, rabbit or hamster?
If not a cat or a fish or a dog
does it sound any better
does it sound any grander?
So are pets living toys that you
provide homes for?
Or are they protectors, companies,
best friends or more?
Whatever it is you just need to see
what goes on up to the family tree.
And how you descended from the line of great ape
and how you behave very much still along that age.
